Child Protective Services and the Business of Taking Your Children

Across the country, children are being taken from loving homes by government agencies collectively known as Child Protective Services. Although these agencies are supposed to protect children, they are actually the engine that drives a multi-billion dollar industry.

shutterstock_200879036-750x400.jpgThis industry, which includes social workers, psychologists,  lawyers, judges, the police, and foster care, revolves around governmental management of children and families. It profits every time a new child is placed into the system. And its survival requires a constant supply of fresh children.

To feed the machine, CPS has become increasingly intrusive to the point where your child might be taken away from you for something as small as asking a doctor for a second opinion.

Ten things you must do if CPS knocks at your door

Would you know what to do if this happened to you?

1) TAKE THE ACCUSATION SERIOUSLY.

Parents are routinely accused of ridiculous things: trying to sell their children to relatives for drug money; molesting a child in the living room during a family party;  beating a child with a baseball bat – without leaving bruises. Yes, those were real calls to CPS – all taken as true by investigators. I don’ t care how absurd or unbelievable the caseworker sounds. Understand that SHE is serious, and likely presumes – no, likely “KNOWS” that you are guilty as accused. Even if she doesn’ t flat out say that she’ s there to take the children, she is quite possibly intent on doing just that.

Australia branded ‘child-stealing capital of the Western world’

Australian children are removed from their families more often than anywhere in the Western world, nearly twice as often as in the US and almost three times the rate in New Zealand, a parliamentary inquiry into child welfare has heard.

There is also “a culture of removal and a culture of victim blaming”.

Mary Moore, convener of the volunteer Alliance for Family Preservation and Restoration, told the NSW parliamentary committee yesterday that children were being taken into care based on the opinion of case workers where no harm had occurred “but because they have concerns the child might suffer harm in the future, and they’re then in care until age 18”.

Woman jailed for brutally assaulting foster child after appearing in Parkes District Court

A 31-year-old Parkes woman was sentenced to seven years’ jail today in Parkes District Court after assaulting a five-year-old foster child in her care.

Brooke Roberts of Middleton Street, appeared before Judge Stephen Hanley on the charge of reckless grievous bodily harm, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of ten years.

White foster carer jailed for 7 years after torturing Aboriginal girl

A 31 year old foster carer was sentenced to seven years jail last Friday in Parkes district court, over the assault of a 5 year old Aboriginal girl.

This story was previously published in the media last Friday without mentioning the fact that the girl was Aboriginal. This is something that is common across Australia. Non Indigenous carers earning an income from the government to raise Indigenous kids. We know not all carers are bad and we are not trying to give all carers a bad name. Our concerns are about stopping these cases from happening and understanding why the media doesn’t want to draw attention to the girls race.

CPS got called on me by the hospital my son was hospiliazed in.

Let's see if I can make this short ... CPS got called on me by the hospital my son was hospiliazed in. They said im medically neglecting my son, im not feeding him ??? that he's failure to thrive and he's in danger because all of this is considered child abuse. First of all, he's now at 3%, he's gaining weight, he's AHEAD of his milestone (no signs of mental abuse or physical abuse) they did a whole investigation ... we are now facing the courts. They want me to drug test every day until my marijuana levels go down (even tho in California WEED IS LEGAL... guess they don't care) even the workers at the drug testing think it's bullshit I'm coming EVERY FUCKING DAY TO TEST. They say my levels are going up and down which is bullshit. They're accusing me of smoking when I'm not. They know I have a medical card yet want to ignore my medical needs. I say the report and there's a lot of false information. We don't have proof.. which is the worst part. Hospital claims my son had a POSSIBLE.... keyword POSSIBLE soy and milk allergy...hence why I never went back to them and found a new doctor.... they still called child services on me. ?? Im fucking pissed... im not enjoying my baby at all cause I'm just stressed out... I'm suppose to be enjoying my family but feels like I'm walking on egg shells... i don't want to fuck up so they don't take my son away from me. I'm depressed but can't tell them that other wise they'll use it agasint me. I'm stressed out. I'm at my breaking point. They're fucking with me...i don't even know if it's legal to sue them and the hospital for distress and false accusations without proof... the only proof we have our My word and my bfs but since we smoke pot we are looked as drug addicts ??

Deaths in Foster Care

The overall death rate in ministry care is 266 per 100 thousand child-years, 9.5 times that of parental care.

Introduction

How bad is child abuse in foster care? This simple question has no easy answer. Two difficulties impede assessment of relative levels of abuse in parental and foster care. One is getting accurate information. Parents are rarely candid about the level of abuse inflicted on their children, and the foster care system has even less candor. The other is the vague definition of many forms of abuse. Small differences in perception can drastically change the measured level of verbal abuse or emotional abuse.

Minister Bhullar says inquiry into deaths of kids in government care not needed

Manmeet Bhullar says no enquiry is needed. Manmeet Bhullar, who will take over the portfolio when the newly shuffled cabinet is sworn in next week, said Wednesday December 18 2013 he doesn't see the need to hold an independent public inquiry into the matter, as demanded by all three opposition parties. Great concerns the 33-year-old Bhullar, who is moving from the Service Alberta portfolio, lacks the experience to shepherd Human Services, which handles child and youth issues, social programs and homelessness.

No inquiry means we do not think these children's lives matter, so much so that we can not even be bothered to look into their deaths. There are no words to describe how disgusted I am.

NSW Govt 'to protect' Goward from inquiry

The NSW opposition claims Premier Barry O'Farrell is trying to protect Pru Goward by saying lower house ministers need not attend an inquiry into ministerial conduct.

Mr O'Farrell mocked the opposition's establishment of the Legislative Council Committee on Ministerial Propriety during question time on Thursday.

While he said he expects himself or any current or former minister in the upper house chamber to front the inquiry if requested, he did not propose any minister of the Legislative Assembly attend.

That was depicted by the opposition as a damning assessment of the Family and Community Services Minister by her leader given that the committee's first hearing planned to focus on "misleading statements" made by Ms Goward to parliament.

Child Protection Inquiry chief accuses child protection officers of 'over-reacting' and seeks review of children in care

SOME children would be better off in an inadequate or even risky home where they were loved rather than being sent to foster care, according to the man behind Queensland's child protection inquiry.

Commissioner Tim Carmody is set to recommend every one of the state's 8000 children in care be individually checked to see if they can return to their families.

He accused some child protection officers of "over-reacting" by taking children away from dysfunctional parents, instead of giving families the help they need.

Parents stunned by news of inquiry into baby’s death while in care

Paul Jean holds his daughter, Dani Isabella Jean, shortly before she died on May 4, 2013. She was found tangled in her foster mother's bed sheets. EDMONTON - Paul Jean believed for more than a year that his six-week-old daughter had died in foster care from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Child protection report lacks crucial national detail on abuse in out-of-home care

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has released a new report showing that one in 32 Australian children received child protection services in 2016-17, with 74% being repeat clients.

The report also noted that the number of children receiving child protection services rose by about 25% over five years, which may “relate to changes in the underlying rate of child abuse and neglect, increases in notifications, and access to services, or a combination of these factors.”

It follows the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse’s final report, which included 409 recommendations to make institutions safer places for children.

One of the Commission’s most striking findings was that Australia’s alternate care systems cannot protect children from abuse.
