Kristen Hilton appointed Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner

Chairman of the Board of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, Mr John Searle, today announced the appointment of Kristen Hilton as the new Commissioner of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission. Ms Hilton will commence her role on 1 June 2016.

 Kristen HiltonMr Searle said Ms Hilton is currently the Executive Director, Legal Practice with Victoria Legal Aid and has previously worked with the organisation as Executive Director, Civil Justice and Access.

 "A lawyer by profession, Kristen has great experience in working to ensure legal access for vulnerable people across Victoria," Mr Searle said.

 "Her expertise in equal opportunity and human rights law will be of great benefit to all Victorians."

 Ms Hilton was previously the Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Clearing House and has extensive knowledge of current civil law and human rights issues and the needs of marginalised and disadvantaged individuals.

 

 Ms Hilton has practised in the private profession and in a number of community legal centres.

 Mr Searle said, "I am thrilled to welcome Kristen as the new Commissioner and I, together with the Board, am looking forward to working with her. Kristen has the experience and the background to ensure she does an outstanding job in this position. She brings great skill, enthusiasm and professionalism to the role and under her leadership I am sure the people of Victoria will be well served."
