Woman accused of kidnapping her daughters from Townsville faces court

A MOTHER accused of abducting her children from a Townsville primary school and going into hiding for four years has faced court.

The woman, 45, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced Townsville Magistrate Court on Monday charged with child stealing and defeat justice offences.

On April 4, 2014 she allegedly took her twin daughters from Hermit Park primary school and went into hiding.

The 11-year-old girls were found in Taree, NSW, last year in May after a joint investigation by the Australian Federal Police and their Queensland counterparts.

The woman was extradited to Queensland, charged with two counts of child stealing and granted bail to live in Townsville with her parents.
